Oil on canvas

um.. They are frogs. Baby frogs. These frogs don't get to be tadpoles, they just get to be frogs. Not like all the others. They all get the tadpole fun.. not these guys.. just frogs.

.. and a windup toy.

.. of course.

I had to take a second to figure out what I was looking at...
I tend to study the piece before I read the artist statement.
You had thrown off with that little toy there.....
toying with me......hmm
I like the glare of the bubbles, although I almost wish there was more glare......maybe you can add some glaze....haha
I also like how you kept the background to a simple one colour, because the frogs themselves are already a busy colour.
great work........

.. yeah. It was a weird piece from the beginning. I loved it at first, I think because it appealed to my sense of the bizarre, but I had some average feedback from one or two people which made me begin to think it might really just be a thing that strikes me as interesting and no-one else. This idea normally wouldn't bother me, only I tend to be able to anticipate which peice will recieve which kind of attention. Not so with this. But then, at my exhibition opening, it turned out to be the favourite amongst a select few. So I guess it must contain some element that you either get or don't get.
I can't explain the piece in any way. The toy. I'm a bit mad. Not sure. I thought it could use more glare too..

I think i just responded to a heap of questions you didn't ask. I also ramble. And I like heavy cocktails, and long walks in the snow.

I feel that is a complimentry piece to this [link]
and the way you developed the translucency in the frog skin is well done.
Have you ever tried painting on glass? You should try it...I think it'll work well for you.
and yes, you're quite talkative once you get going.
Seems I've pushed the right buttons....
...hmmm...where's that "off" button??...haha

Its weird you should think the goldfish compliment them. I painted them at the same time and they came directly out of the same headspace, despite being markedly different subject matter.
well.. I guess they have the watery element in common. and the fairly central, disembodied composition. And the birth/death scenario.. but thats all neither here nor there..
